This early hulk is a boat with a very strong bottom, made from one tree. The hulk was used for transport on rivers and along coastlines and was able to take the river rapids on the Rhine. Most of the time it was towed or poled, sometimes a small triangular sail was used. This boat is modeled on the one in the Central Museum in Utrecht.
