High-resolution 3D model of the head of the "David di Donatello" marble statue - 3D model generated through Laser Triangulation 3D Scanning, triangulated surface mesh, topologically clean, usable for rendering and 3D printing: 3.5 millions triangles - Digitization By Visual Computing Lab, ISTI-CNR (http://vcg.isti.cnr.it) - The digitization was aimed at creating a physical copy of the object for a temporary exposition: since the head is a focal point in the statue, this model just represent the head/shoulders at maximum resolution, and has been used to carve the head section of the copy, while the rest of the statue has been carved using a lower-resolution model. Early sculpture of Donatello, this marble statue dates back to 1408-1409. Made to be placed in the Florence Cathedral, was later on moved to Palazzo Vecchio, and now it is conserved at the Museo nazionale del Bargello in Florence.
