low-res 3D model of the whole Griffin, simplified from the master model for rendering and interactive use - 4 millions of triangles - Structured Light + Laser Triangulation scanning - only geometry. 3D digitization by Visual Computing Lab, ISTI-CNR - 3D survey done in the framework of a series of scientific investigation on the Griffin and other artefacts of similar origin. The Pisa Griffin is a bronze sculpture of a griffin, located in Pisa (Italy) since the Middle Ages, even though originally is a product of Mediterranean Islamic workshops. It is the largest medieval Islamic metal sculpture known, over 1 meter tall, and was probably crafted in the 11th century in Islamic Spain. It is one of the most famous example of a tradition of zoomorphic bronzes in Islamic art. It is now conserved in the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo in Pisa.
