The mansion of Kougioumtzoglou - Kaloudi is located in the old city of Xanthi(Greece), in a short distance from the Metropolis Square. It was constructed as a private residence of Vassilios Kougioumtzoglou, a wealthy tobacco merchant of the era. The Kougioumtzoglou family also owned the two buildings right next to this mansion, on Antika Street 5 & 7, which house the Folklore Museum of the city, as well three similar buildings in Philippoupolis in Bulgaria, one of which houses the Ethnological Museum of the city. It is a two storey building with a semi-basement, which covers a total area of 260m2. Typologically it belongs to the scholarly architecture and it is built in the neoclassical style with Romanesque characteristics. The basic characteristic of the building concerning both exterior sides and the ground floor is the absolute symmetry.
