The building of the Ecclesiastical Library of Xanthi is located in the old city, in a short distance from the Metropolis Square. It is a two-storey building that follows the traditional architecture of Western Macedonia and Epirus, a type that occurs frequently in the region. The building also carries neoclassical architectural characteristics. Above its main entrance, there is an arched skylight and in the same axis, on the second floor raises a small balcony. At the right side of the entrance and the balcony, there are four windows, two on each floor and one on each floor of the left side respectively. All windows are covered by ornate ironwork. Internally, there is a central hall with all the other rooms being arranged around it. The building of the Ecclesiastical Library was originally built as a private residence. During the Turkish occupation, it was donated to the Greek community. From 1993 to 2006, the building housed the headquarters of the Cultural Development Centre of Thrac
