The house of Mohamed Ali Pasha (1805-1848) is located at the northern side of the homonymous square, within the Panagia district in the old city of Kavala. Mohamed Ali was born in the city of Kavala and lived there until the age of 30. It appears that he settled in this house after he claimed economic power. The building has two floors and covers a total area of 330m2. It is divided in two parts that have different entries and communicate only at the second floor. The harem (the female quarters) was located at the north side of the secondfloor, while the selamlik (the men quarters) and the space for the reception of the visitors were placed at the south side. The private sector was located at the west side. The sofa in the north side was used to connect the rest of the rooms and to function as the living quarters of the family during the vernal period.
