The theater, built from Romans during the II century AD, presents walls made with regular courses of squared blocks interposed with rows of bricks (opus vittatum). The steps and architectural elements were built with stone from an extraction area close to Monaco called Turbie. The lowest part of the steps (ima cavea or moenianum inferiore) is well preserved; it consists of ten orders of steps, and two side entrances (versurae or paradoi) which gave the access to the semicircular orchestra. The orchestra was separated from the stage (pulpitum)
through a wall (balteum). The wall (frons frons) that closed the rear of the stage is well preserved;
in the stage there were three gates. On the sides of the stage are still preserved two large rooms
(parascaenia) that served as service rooms.
A gallery and an intermediate wall (praecinctio) divided
the ima from the summa cavea, which is no longer conserved.
Three radial stairway corridors (vomitoria), that are still partially
preserved and that allowed the flow of public, gave access to an intermediate corridor (diazoma).

Name | UAV photogrammetric survey - Ventimiglia Theater |
Description | The flight was realized using a model-helicopter (Copter 4 developed by Survey Copter. 593 vertical and oblique photos were acquired, using 24 Megapixel Nikon D3X SLR (pixel size of 0.0059mm) digital camera mounting a 50 mm lens. The images were taken from a mean distance of approximately 25 m from the object, obtaining a GSD of about 3mm. |
