Tomb of the Blue Demons - 3D
Tarquinia was one of the most ancient cities of the Etruscan confederation. Archaeological evidence attests to the presence of villages on the plateau, which then gave origins to the Etruscan centre. Tarquinia lost power after its clashes with Rome between 311 and 308 B.C. The necropoleis are situated in the inhabited centres of Monterozzi and Calvario. There are around 6000 tombs - around 60 of which are decorated with paintings. The Tomb of the Augurs, the Giglioli, the Hunting and Fishing and the Leopards Tombs are some of the most famous.
The Tomb of the Blue Demons is the most recent of the painted tombs and was discovered in 1985. Although the paintings were not in an optimal state of conservation, it is considered to be very important due to the unique nature of the scenes depicted. It has been dated to around the V century B.C.

Modelling and digitization process - Tomb of the Blue Demons |
Description
|
In-house developed algorithms and combined with commercial packages were used to generate a dense point cloud. The obtained dense point cloud was triangulated to derive a mesh model and finally a high resolution texture was generated. |

Metric survey - Tomb of the Blue Demons |
Description
|
Combined TOF scanning and panoramic photographic surveys were carried out to obtain the complete 3D model.
The TOF range data were used to derive the geometry of the tomb, while the panoramic image was used to derive the photo-realistic high resolution texture. |
